Balloon play

Fun coordination activity with balloons
- 3+ years
- Group size: 1+
- Duration: 20 min
- Alternative physical activities
- Gym / Sports hall
- Indoor
- Open space
- Balloons
The only limit to what you can do with balloons is your imagination, but here are some examples:
- Keep the balloon in the air using only one hand
- Keep the balloon in the air without using your hands
- Swap balloons in the air with another person on a given signal
- Knock other people’s balloons away within a defined area, while still keeping control of your own
- In pairs, move from one side of the room to the other while keeping a single balloon in the air together
- Have more balloons in the air than participants – the shared goal is to keep all the balloons in the air
It can also be fun to finish by letting the participants pop their own balloon.
For the youngest children, it may be enough just to try to keep the balloon in the air. To make it a bit more challenging for the older ones, you can, for example, allow them during the individual exercises to walk only on the lines on the floor.
Variation
Participants use a fly swatter or a “newspaper bat” to keep the balloon in the air – either alone, in pairs, or in small groups.
- Everyone works together to keep all the balloons in the air
- After hitting one balloon, you must move on to another
- The balloon is kept in the air over a net
