A large square is marked on the floor, which is divided into as many smaller squares as there are participants. Each square is approximately 2x2 meters. Each participant gets their own square to "defend". The game starts by throwing a ball into the air. The task for everyone is now to prevent the ball from landing in one of the squares, or outside the large square.

The balls can be played further with the entire body – for example, hit, kicked, or headed. Instead of making the game an individual competition, the group can be given a common goal, for example, to achieve ten touches in a row without the ball hitting the ground.

Variations

To adjust the tempo and difficulty, one can:

  • use softer or slower balls, such as a beach ball or balloon
  • allow some players to use all body parts, while others are only allowed to use one specific part (e.g., only feet or only head)
  • give participants who need it a smaller area to "defend"
  • allow participants who have challenges with ball control to catch the ball, hold it for a moment, and then put it back into play in a controlled manner
