Bombardment

An intense ball game that challenges eye-hand coordination.
- 10+ years
- Group size: 10+
- Duration: 30 min
- Ball sport
- Gym / Sports hall
- Open space
- Ball
The hall is divided into two, and participants are split into two groups placed on opposite sides. Each group has about five balls. On signal, they start throwing at their opponents. Participants continue to use both their own balls and balls coming over from the other side. Those who are hit by a ball are out of the game. The game continues until only one player remains.
If the game is played outdoors, it's advisable to have some 'walls' so that the balls don't disappear too far. Here, students can also be used as 'walls' by standing along the outer edges and stopping balls that go out.
Variations
The game can be varied in several ways:
- Participants who are hit must perform an exercise on the sideline (for example, sit-ups, push-ups, or jumps) before they can re-enter the field. This makes the game last longer and provides an opportunity to incorporate strength training into the session.
- An alternative variation: On signal, participants start throwing balls into the opponents' field. The goal of the game is to return balls as quickly as possible to keep one's own field as free of balls as possible. When the game stops, the team with the fewest balls in its field wins.
Adjust the difficulty by:
- varying the size of the playing field based on how good the participants are at throwing
- if they are good at throwing, the field can be made larger
- if they are younger or more inexperienced, the field can be smaller and shorter distances will provide better control.
