In this exercise, a 'commander' will give various signals that the children must react to.
Participants line up on the center line. Here, they should either listen (with their backs turned) or watch the commander. On a signal, they should, for example, take one step forward, one step back, or lie down on the ground. The person who reacts last, or performs the wrong action, gets a letter in the word 'PIG'. The commander decides who gets a letter if it's a very close call.
Examples of signals:
- right/left arm or foot
- colors on cards/slips
- whistle signals
- claps
Examples of actions:
- one step forward/backward
- sprint forward/backward
- power jumps
- down on stomach/back
- turns
- run different courses
Variation
Use several types of signals simultaneously, so that children have to concentrate extra to do it correctly. The exercise can also be performed with a ball, on skis, with skates, or in water.
