Participants form a long line. One is the fox, one is the goose mother, and the rest are goslings. The goslings hold onto each other's waists and stand in line behind the goose mother, who leads the line.
The fox tries to catch the last gosling, while the goose mother and goslings do their best to protect it. The goose mother can hold her arms out to the sides to shield the flock from the fox. When the fox manages to catch the last gosling, they swap roles: the fox becomes the goose mother, and the caught gosling becomes the new fox.
Being the fox is quite demanding, so ensure natural and frequent role changes, even if the fox doesn't manage to catch the gosling.
Variation
Let the fox stand first in the line, in front of the goose mother and goslings. Now the fox tries to catch the last gosling without anyone letting go of each other. The geese between the fox and the gosling are then 'passive' and merely follow the movements that occur at the front or back of the line.
