Obstacle course

Obstacle course

Activity using equipment in a sports hall

  • 6+ years
  • Group size: 1+
  • Duration: 40 min
  • Alternative physical activities
  • Gym / Sports hall

Set up different pieces of equipment and challenges in a circle or loop, adapted to your gym or outdoor area. The children spread out along the course and move around it. They can do the exercises at their own pace and level, ensuring high activity for everyone.

Examples of activities:

  • Crawl along benches and jump down onto the crash mat
  • Lie on the stomach, jump up as high as possible, and land on the stomach again
  • Go over and under the balance beam several times
  • Do a forward roll and then a high jump (stretch jump)
  • Do bunny hops along the long mat
  • Crawl across the long mat
  • Do slalom jumps over benches, or jump up onto and down from benches
  • Do double jumps with a skipping rope or 10 continuous jumps

Let the children come up with their own activities. You can also change the order of the obstacles and create different levels each time you set up the course.

The activity can be adapted to the participants’ levels. The children can also choose their own level of challenge and excitement by overcoming the obstacles in different ways.

For the youngest children, the obstacle course can be turned into a story. For example, the children have “been stranded on a desert island”, and the floor is the sea full of sharks, anyone who steps on the floor might be eaten. This immediately increases motivation and the sense of challenge.
