Horse and cart is a partner exercise where the person in front is the "horse" and the person behind is the "cart". The horse runs and pulls, while the cart should provide resistance. For the horse to move as freely as possible, it is advisable to use a rope tied around the waist of the person who is the horse.
Change roles often, so that both get to be both horse and cart. Let the children explore and play with the exercise.
Tip: The exercise is well suited for skiing, where poles can be used instead of rope.
Variation
A good warm-up exercise that can also be used in ball games or as a form of tag. The cart can try to pull the horse off balance by moving sideways and disturbing the movement pattern.
Resistance can be varied by the cart, for example, by:
- sitting on their bottom
- sitting on their knees
- standing on a movable surface (carpet tiles, sled, skis or skates)
- running behind and actively holding back
