  • Open space

Pebbles can be found almost everywhere in our surroundings. When playing with stones, it's important to set clear rules together with the children. Stones offer many possibilities for activities, and it's a good idea to encourage children to use both the right and left sides of their bodies in the different games. Focus on the joy of play and children's participation in the activities.

Activity ideas:

  • Collect stones of approximately the same size together with the children.
  • Play statues or ballerinas: Stand in different ways (on your toes, on your heels, on one foot) with a stone over your head, and stretch your arms out well.
  • Try standing on your toes on one foot with a stone over your head. Is it more difficult on the right or left foot?
  • Let the children throw stones as far as they can with their dominant hand, with the opposite leg forward. Then let them try with the other hand. Find or create targets together that you can throw at. Remember to establish clear rules. Here, you can also use pinecones.
  • Hold a stone with both hands. Try to sit down and stand up again without using your hands for support on the ground.
  • Sit on your bottom and squeeze a stone between your feet. Lift your feet up, and try to take the stone with your hands while still seated.
  • Stand with your feet slightly apart and hold a stone above your head with both hands. Lean your upper body back as far as possible and drop the stone, so it lands between your legs. Bend forward and pick it up again.
