Shooting Interval

An activity that challenges coordination, focus, and precision.

  • 11+ years
  • Group size: 10+
  • Duration: 20 min
  • Ball sport
  • Gym / Sports hall
  • Open space
  • Ball

Scoring goals is both fun and central to ball sports. In this exercise, participants get to practice various ways to score, while the relay format adds an element of stress and excitement. The exercise can help increase the joy of playing, motivation to train, and the sense of accomplishment from scoring.

Divide into several teams. In the center, place as many, or twice as many, balls as there are participants. One child from each team starts simultaneously, runs to the center, chooses a ball, and shoots at one of the goals.

  • If the player scores, they run straight back and tag the next person on their team.
  • If the player misses, the ball must be retrieved and placed back in the center before tagging.

Each team should try to score on all the goals: soccer goal, bucket, handball goal, and basketball hoop. The goal is to score the most points as long as there are balls in the center. Teams keep track of their own scores.

Variation

You can vary the exercise by:

  • changing the distance to the goals
  • limiting the number of touches before shooting
  • adding obstacles on the way to the goal
  • using more or different types of balls

To boost the atmosphere and practice celebrating others' success, you can agree that the whole team should cheer every time someone scores.
