Divide participants into groups of 3–6 people. The 'TRUE' and 'FALSE' labels are placed some distance from the groups, preferably 25–30 meters. Each group is given a fly swatter to use when they run out.
The leader reads out a statement, for example, related to a subject area (history, natural science, physical education, social studies, etc.). The group quickly discusses whether they believe the statement is true or false, and agrees on an answer. On a signal, the person holding the fly swatter runs as fast as possible to 'slap' the label they believe is correct – either 'TRUE' or 'FALSE'. The leader reveals the correct answer, possibly briefly explaining why, and moves on to the next statement. Participants take turns being the one to run with the fly swatter.
Variations
Instead of TRUE or FALSE, the answers can be political parties, or mathematical concepts or parts of speech, where participants slap what they think is correct based on the statement.
Progression
- Increase the distance to the labels for higher intensity.
- Increase the pace by providing less thinking time.
- Use more difficult or detailed statements for a higher academic challenge.
