Participants are divided into two groups who line up facing each other. One participant from team A runs over to team B to tap their hands. Players on team B stand with one hand outstretched, holding a softball ready to throw in the other hand.

The runner gives three light taps on one or more of the outstretched hands. On the third tap, they turn and sprint back to their team. The player who received the third tap must stay in their spot and try to hit the runner with the ball before they reach their own line.

  • If the thrower hits the runner, the team "wins" an extra player (for example, by bringing a previously eliminated player back, or simply scoring one point).
  • If the thrower misses, it's their team's turn: Now it's their turn to send a runner to tap the opponents' hands.

The team that ultimately remains with only three players has lost. The one who threw the ball immediately runs out and retrieves it.

The game is also well suited for large groups if multiple balls are used simultaneously.

Variation

  • Increase the distance between the teams to make it harder to run and more challenging to throw accurately.
  • If it becomes too easy to hit the runner, throwers can start with the ball lying on the floor in front of them instead of in their hand – they must first pick up the ball before throwing.
