Ten Passes

Ten Passes

Practice throwing, receiving, and teamwork. A great activity for warm-ups or as a main activity.

  • 6+ years
  • Group size: 8+
  • Duration: 10 min
  • Ball sport
  • Gym / Sports hall
  • Open space
  • Ball
  • Mesh vests

Divide participants into two teams. It's recommended to use pinnies (bibs) to make it easier to distinguish between the teams. Mark out a clear area to play in.

The goal is for a team to complete 10 passes among themselves without the opposing team intercepting the pass. The opposing team can only win the ball by intercepting a pass in the air, or if the ball hits the ground.

Tip: Have the teams count the passes out loud. This makes it easier to keep track of how many passes they have completed.

Variations

  • When a team achieves 10 passes, two players from the opposing team must leave the playing area and complete a task before they can re-enter. This allows for combining physical activity with other subjects/topics.
  • Make the game easier by reducing the number of passes needed for a point, for example, 5 instead of 10.
  • Adapt according to age and skill level by using balls of different sizes and weights.
  • Increase the difficulty by using multiple teams and multiple balls simultaneously.
  • Start by allowing players to throw freely to anyone on their team. Then make it more challenging by prohibiting passing back to the player from whom they received the ball.

The exercise can also be performed on skis or skates.
