Flying Carpet

A game that challenges a child's sense of balance.
- 1-5 years
- Group size: 1+
- Duration: 20 min
- Alternative physical activities
- Gym / Sports hall
- Indoor
Find a blanket and let the children sit on it. 2–3 children at a time is suitable. The adult starts by pulling the children across the floor. Eventually, the children can try to pull each other.
Vary the speed by walking or running:
- straight ahead
- in a zigzag
- in a figure-eight
Children can make the activity more challenging by:
- sitting on their bottom
- kneeling
- lying on their stomach or back
- standing upright
- trying with and without a blindfold (be careful with the speed when children are blindfolded!)
If there are two adults together, you can each grab one end of the blanket, let a child sit in the “flying carpet” and gently lift and swing it up and down. Make sure you have a soft surface, such as a crash mat, mats, pillows, or similar.
