Helicopter spins

The children practise balance, body control and imagination through various ‘helicopter spins’.
- 1-5 years
- Group size: 1+
- Duration: 20 min
- Alternative physical activities
- Indoor
- Open space
- Gym / Sports hall
Have the children stand with plenty of space between them. They should now pretend to be helicopters and do lots of helicopter spins. To spin like a helicopter, they stretch their arms straight out and spin round quickly.
Once the children have had a go at spinning, you can, for example, vary between:
- Night-time helicopter – close your eyes whilst spinning
- Baby helicopter – sit on your bottom, stretch your legs up in the air and spin round using your hands
- Grandma helicopter – spin round slowly and calmly
- Ballerina helicopter – stand on your toes with your arms up in the air and spin round
- Rescue helicopter – spin round quickly
Adjust how many helicopters you introduce at the start, and feel free to come up with new variations together with the children.
The game can also be played with music. When the music stops, you could, for example, decide that everyone has to be a ‘ballerina helicopter’.
