Pair Relay on Skis

Pair Relay on Skis

Basic skiing skills are challenged at high speed.

  • 10+ years
  • Group size: 6+
  • Duration: 20 min
  • Relay
  • Partner exercise
  • Snow / ice
  • Skis

Divide the participants into pairs. Mark off an area with a start line and a turning line. All exercises go from the start line to the turning line and back. The pairs move as fast as possible from start to finish, and get different movement tasks for each leg. They must find their own solutions for how to complete the tasks.

Participants move back and forth with:

  • four skis, no poles
  • two skis, no poles
  • four skis, two poles
  • three skis, three poles
  • three skis, no poles

Examples of movement tasks:

  • One sits in a squat, the other pushes from behind using a skating technique.
  • One is “blind” (scarf over the eyes), the other pushes from behind or leads.
  • One skis backwards, the other forwards.
  • Both ski backwards while holding hands.
  • Tie their legs together with a scarf and try to move forward as a “three-ski pair”.
