Story

What do you like best on your pancakes for dinner? Now, let's pretend we are pancakes ourselves and roll around in the blueberry jam that's ready on the mats. From one end to the other.

  • If we want a little blueberry jam on our pancake, we roll fast.
  • If we want a lot of blueberry jam, we have to roll slowly down the 'blueberry hill'.
  • And if we want extra much, we can roll both ways, back and forth, to get two layers of blueberry jam on us.

We can also pretend the mats are filled with other things we like on pancakes: strawberry jam, sugar, ice cream, or anything else the children suggest.

Description

Lay three mats in a row so that the children get one long mat to roll on. This can be on a flat surface or a gentle slope, depending on what is available and safe.

The children line up and take turns rolling one by one 'in the blueberry jam' or whatever they have chosen to put on their pancake. Once they have rolled across the entire mat, they go back to the queue and wait for their next turn.

To create extra inspiration, you can read the fairy tale about the pancake before the game, or tell a short story about pancakes and 'blueberry hills' while the children are rolling.
