The participants pair up. The couples stand in a large circle, facing each other. The steps used are foot changes and side hops.
A) First Part
The couples hold hands, the boy (number two) with his back towards the center.
With a small hop, both put their left foot forward with the heel on the floor. Repeat with the right foot. Then follow with four such foot changes at double tempo. Repeat these hops while singing the line again.
B) Second Part
Hop eight side hops counter-clockwise and eight back again while singing the rest of the verse.
Song
A)As I was walking down the street,
down the street, down the street,
A friend of mine I chanced to meet,
hi-ho, hi-ho, hi-ho.
B)Rig-a-jig-jig and away we go,
away we go, away we go!
Rig-a-jig-jig and away we go,
hi-ho, hi-ho, hi-ho!
Progression
It is easiest to learn the song game by having the students stand in pairs, one after another in a long line, and everyone hops in the same direction all the time. One can also sing along: «slow – slow – fast-fast-fast-fast».
