The "Rainmaker" opens a ball net filled with small softballs and lets the balls "rain" down over the participants. The one who collects the most balls becomes the next rainmaker. The game can end either when time is up, or when all the balls have been picked up.
In advance, a small designated area can be marked for each participant, for example with a hula hoop. This area serves as the participant's "storage" for the balls, making it easier to see who has collected the most.
Variations
Participants can try to collect as many balls as possible without using their hands, for example by:
- squeezing the ball between their knees
- balancing the ball on their head or arm
- pushing the ball with their feet
You can also vary the equipment by using balls with different:
- sizes
- weights (e.g., lighter balls)
- friction
Some may benefit from using balls with sound (e.g., rattling balls) to make the activity more accessible.
To increase the intensity, the "storage" can be placed a distance away from where the balls are released, so that participants have to run more and further to retrieve and store the balls.
