The class is divided into two teams, with one team at each end of the hall and a crash mat placed in the middle of the room. One team starts: one student runs forward, throws or flings themselves onto the crash mat, and tries to move it as close as possible to the team on the opposite side.

The game then continues with students running forward alternately from each team. Each jump or 'throw' onto the crash mat should help move it a little closer to their own team. Once everyone has had a turn (or as many rounds as you have agreed upon), you see which team has managed to move the crash mat furthest in their direction. That team wins.

Variation

The game can be varied by having two, three, or more players run and jump simultaneously from each team. It might be a good idea to let several people jump at the same time when the game is introduced for the first time. The activity can feel a bit 'exposing'; one becomes very visible when running and flinging oneself onto the crash mat. For some, it might feel uncomfortable to do this alone, especially if they have never tried anything similar before. By jumping together, it becomes safer and more inclusive, lowering the barrier to participation.

This game provides a lot of physical activity and trains strength, courage, body control, and cooperation, while also creating laughter and shared experiences of achievement.
