Play on Rocks

Play on Rocks

Suggestions for activities and games on large rocks.

  • 1-10 years
  • Group size: 1+
  • Duration: 20 min
  • Alternative physical activities
  • Mountains, forests and fields
  • Open space

Do you find large rocks or similar in your local area? Then it can be extra fun to use them in play. If there are several rocks close to each other, you can, for example, pretend that it's forbidden to touch the ground, or that you are only allowed to touch the ground once between the rocks.

Activity ideas:

  • Let the children explore the rocks by climbing up, down, and jumping off. Are the rocks close enough for them to jump from rock to rock?
  • If the rocks are low, the children can jump over them.
  • Play that the rock is a horse: Sit astride the rock and lift your bottom when you 'gallop' across the plain.
  • Play statues: Try to balance on both feet, and then on one foot on top of the rock. Test both right and left feet. Does it get harder when you close your eyes?
  • Play ballerinas: Stand on your toes on top of the rock.
  • Play airplane: Bend forward with one foot backward and arms out to the side. Try both on the right and left foot.
