Playing in Puddles

- Group size: 1+
- Duration: 20 min
- Alternative physical activities
- Mountains, forests and fields
- Open space
Children are often drawn to water and puddles, and puddles offer many opportunities for physical, active play. With appropriate clothing, it becomes even more fun! 'Follow the Leader' is a fun game in puddles; let the children take turns being the leader.
Activity Ideas:
- Let the children run in and out of the puddle.
- Stand in the puddle and jump as high as possible. Are there different ways to jump?
- Try jumping into the puddle, and then out of it like a frog, kangaroo, star jump, etc.
- Can anyone jump into the puddle and then jump out again in different directions: forwards, backwards, and sideways?
- Play rabbits: Jump into the puddle with feet together, and then jump forwards out of the puddle. Also try jumping into the puddle with feet together and back to the starting point.
- Stand in the middle of the puddle and jump in all directions with feet together, up and down as many times as you can.
Challenge: Can anyone hop into the puddle and then hop out of it again?
