Pregnant Witch

Pregnant Witch

A pair variation of 'freeze tag'.

  • 10+ years
  • Group size: 8+
  • Duration: 20 min
  • Partner exercise
  • Tag
  • Gym / Sports hall
  • Open space
  • Ball
  • Mesh vests

Participants team up in pairs. Each pair must carry a ball between them without using their hands. The ball can, for example, be held:

  • hip to hip
  • head to head
  • back to back

The leader can vary the pace of the game (slow, medium, fast) throughout.

One pair acts as 'witches' and must catch the others. The witches should wear pinnies or headwear so they are easily recognizable. When a pair is caught, they stand still and form a 'portal' (for example, by standing a little apart and holding their arms up). They are freed again if another pair with a ball moves through the portal.

Pairs must keep the ball between them throughout the game, except when they are caught and standing still as a portal.

Variations

  • Use scarves or similar items over the eyes so that one person in the pair is 'blind' and must be guided by their partner.
  • Play a variant where speaking is not allowed – all communication happens through pressure and small movements against the ball.
  • Vary the number of witches to adjust intensity and difficulty.

By making 'frozen tag' a pair exercise, the pace is naturally slowed, allowing more people to participate. For participants in wheelchairs, you can choose alternative ways to transport the ball, for example:

  • between the knees
  • between the stomach and chest
  • lightly attached with an elastic band

This way, the game can be easily adapted to various needs.
