Spatial Awareness

An activity that challenges spatial orientation and eye-hand coordination.

  • 3-14 years
  • Group size: 1+
  • Duration: 20 min
  • Alternative physical activities
  • Gym / Sports hall
  • Indoor
  • Open space
  • Bean bags

Line up the children and use beanbags:

  • Throw the beanbag forward on the floor, close your eyes, and try to find it again.
  • Throw the beanbag forward on the floor, close your eyes, do a pirouette, and try to find it again.
  • Close your eyes, throw the beanbag forward on the floor, and try to find it again.

Feel free to find more variations yourself.

Children should walk forward until they believe they have reached where the beanbag landed, before bending down and picking it up / searching for it. Do not let them crawl forward, feeling their way all the time.

Progression

Start with short throws, and gradually increase the distance.
