Ball Toss

Ball Toss

A self-competition focusing on mastery and development.

  • 6+ years
  • Group size: 1+
  • Duration: 20 min
  • Ball sport
  • Gym / Sports hall
  • Open space
  • Ball

All participants have their own ball. Start with them standing facing you, preferably in a semicircle with some space around them. Suggested challenges:

  • Throw the ball up and catch it with both hands between your legs
  • Throw the ball up with your left hand and catch it with your right – and vice versa
  • Throw the ball up and catch it while sitting on your bottom
  • Throw the ball up, do a somersault, and try to catch the ball again
  • Throw the ball up and see how close to the floor you can catch it without it touching the ground
  • Throw the ball high up and see if you can catch it before it lands
  • Throw the ball up and gradually throw higher as you master catching it

Encourage participants to be creative and come up with their own variations, use your imagination.

As an adult, you can lead the activity by having the participants mimic you. Show the exercises instead of explaining too much; this will result in more activity and fewer breaks. When you want to give instructions, hold the ball completely still and ask the participants to do the same, so everyone pays attention.
