A relay race variant that challenges basic skiing skills at a higher pace.
- 10+ years
- Group size: 6+
- Duration: 10 min
- Relay
- Snow / ice
- Skis
Define an area with a clear starting line and a stretch of approx. 50–100 meters. Along this stretch, set up two buckets per team: one in the middle, and one at the end of the stretch.
Divide the group into teams with 2–3 participants per team. Each team needs the same number of items in bucket no. 1 as there are participants on the team for example, balls, beanbags, or firm snowballs.
The relay is carried out as follows:
- The first person skates to bucket no. 1.
- Picks up one item and places it in bucket no. 2.
- Skates back to the starting line for the changeover.
- The next person (and possibly the third) does the same.
Once all items have been moved from bucket no. 1 to bucket no. 2, the team must do the opposite:
- retrieve one item at a time from bucket no. 2 back to bucket no. 1.
When all items are back in bucket no. 1, the relay is finished.
The activity is carried out without poles.
