Everyone plays against everyone. The goal is to hit others with the ball without getting hit yourself.
If you get hit, you sit down in a designated area, for example, on a mat. You become 'free' again and can return to the game if the person who hit you is later hit themselves. Therefore, participants must keep track of who hit them; this is difficult for the teacher to monitor, especially if there are multiple balls in play.
It's not necessary to crown a winner. The teacher can stop the game when appropriate and call back those who have been out for a long time.
Rules:
- it's allowed to take up to three steps before throwing
- it's not allowed to throw at the head (the head is 'free')
- if you catch the ball when someone throws it at you, you are not out
- if the ball hits the floor before it hits the player, the player is also not out (as in regular dodgeball)
Situations will always arise that need to be assessed during the game, and the teacher should therefore pay close attention.
This activity is also suitable for snow with skis, or in water.
