This is a variant of tag where some balls are distributed beforehand, and the chaser hunts everyone who doesn't have a ball. Those being chased can either run away from the chaser or try to get someone to throw a ball to them. When a chased person gets a ball, they are safe. The point is that everyone must cooperate and help the person being chased, so that he or she can get away from the chaser(s).

The number of balls can be varied. Start with 2–3 balls and then try with more. The chaser can hold a training vest in their hand to be extra visible.

Variation

The game can also be played without a ball. In that case, a specific movement or activity is agreed upon beforehand, which makes a player safe and unable to be tagged. In a swimming pool, for example, it could be to «float like a cork,» if this is a skill the group has practiced previously.

The difficulty can be increased by introducing a time limit on how long one can hold the ball. If you are chased and don't have a ball, you constantly have to get a new one, which makes the game more demanding.

Optionally, let two participants cooperate on one ball. This provides:

  • better overview of the game
  • clearer distribution of responsibility (you know who the ball comes from)
  • fewer people to keep track of

This variant can be used for the entire group or only for those who have the greatest need for support and simplification.
