Jump Over the Line

Jump Over the Line

An activity where children practice using adapted force.

  • 3-5 years
  • Group size: 1+
  • Duration: 20 min
  • Alternative physical activities
  • Mountains, forests and fields
  • Gym / Sports hall
  • Indoor
  • Open space
  • Snow / ice

Draw a line in the sandbox and ask some of the children if they can jump over it. Make sure the distance to the line is quite short at first, to encourage as many children as possible to try. Gradually, you can erase the line and draw a new one a little further away, so that the children have to use more force to clear it.

When out in the forest, it can be exciting to jump over small streams, roots, or stones. Draw lines on the ground to make it even more motivating for the children to jump.

Indoors, you can jump from line to line on the floor, varying the distance between them to give children different challenges.
