Tactile Trail

Tactile Trail

A sensory trail that specifically stimulates the sense of touch.

  • 3-10 years
  • Group size: 1+
  • Duration: 20 min
  • Alternative physical activities
  • Gym / Sports hall
  • Indoor
  • Blindfolds

The child is blindfolded and guided through a sensory trail. It is important that the child is accompanied by an adult they know well, so that they feel safe. At each station, the child should guess what they are touching.

Examples of stations:

  • feel cold and warm water – two buckets of water
  • feel hard and soft things – for example, a LEGO brick and a teddy bear
  • feel light and heavy things – for example, a small, inflated balloon and a round stone or sphere
  • feel bumpy and smooth things – for example, a spiky ball or a knobby ball and a tennis ball
  • feel fine and coarse things – for example, a feather and a spruce twig

The sensory trail can also be adapted for other senses, such as hearing with different sounds, or taste with various flavors.

To make the activity more challenging, the child can balance on benches or similar objects between the stations.
